12th September Rome

OK good morning so after a good nights sleep in the  Premier Inn last night we all got up early to get our flight to Rome, this meant having a seriously early breakfast. We heard that Kelly and Warren had arrived and had checked in to the terminal and Elaine and Andy were also nearby. So at around 7:30 we checked our bags in and along with Elaine & Andy, so the 6 of us went through to meet Kelly and Warren in the terminal. This is where it started to go downhill as we hit the bar and started drinking, this followed on the plane trip over and subsequently throughout the day. We were met in Rome by our 2 van drivers and were taken to our Boutique hotel in the heart of Rome. Its a lovely little hotel but there was no elevator and with an average of 25kgs of cases each the lug up the 2 floors were hard work. We threw our bags in and headed straight out again stopping off at our first tourist spot Trevi Fountain which was about 50 metres from out hotel, we walked around the city and settled for some late lunch. This was a nice break and the drinks kept flowing, after lunch we carried on walking around the city completely lost even with Google maps, but we did end up at the Spanish Steps which were basically a load of steps but it was another tourist spot ticked off. More drinks followed. The one thing we had realised is how expensive this place is, we were re loaded our whip purse with 50’s about every 2 hours. We settled for a nice restaurant for drinks and then decided to eat there as well. It was quite reasonable but a couple of the meals had to go back as they were cold but apart from that it was nice sitting outside. not content with calling it a night we headed back towards the hotel and popped into what looked like a small bar opposite the hotel but we were led downstairs into a huge room for our table of 8, here we carried on with more drinks and before we knew it the day was over, a long day and a very drunken one as the small walk back to the rooms was noisy messy and no change really, a typical first night. Off to bed and a reasonably early start tomorrow for more tourist sop offs. Night night.
